Pistolera to Headline the 2011 Festival 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25 in the Amphitheater
Pistolera's accordion-driven melodies invite you to a dance party at the Brooklyn-Mexico border. Fans around the world are dancing cumbias to the group’s socially conscious songs ---en espanol. Pistolera’s two albums, Siempre Hay Salida and En Este Camino, were produced by Grammy-winner Charlie Dos Santos. The band has toured in the U.S., Belgium, Holland, Portugal and Mexico, and has shared the stage with Los Lobos, Lila Downs, The Mexican Institute Of Sound, Kinky, Ely Guerra, Los Amigos Invisibles, Veux Farka Toure and Ozomatli, among others.

Moona Luna is the new musical project brought to you by the Latin-Alternative group Pistolera. Inspired by the birth of her first child, Pistolera's lead singer and songwriter Sandra Velasquez now brings us family-friendly songs in Spanish and English that continue the band's tradition of positive messages and toe-tapping beats. Moona Luna continues the party with songs that are educational and inspiring to girls and boys--and their parents!--everywhere. Moona Luna is the first female-led bilingual band of its kind, but most of all, it's fun, fun, fun! A bailar!

Kandela Show: Hailing from various parts of Mexico, these talented musicians now reside in Southern Oregon. They bring us Duranguense, the up and coming genre in Latin music, played on Regional Mexican radio stations and popular among the Mexican-American community in the United States. Duranguense is closely related to the Mexican styles of bandaand norteño. The main instruments are the saxophone, trombone, and bass drum with the addition of synthesizers. “Fun and fast, Duranguense music is here to stay. Take the time to explore this emerging genre and you won't be disappointed!”

Kendálin is an eclectic 8-member folk-fusion ensemble. With lush vocal harmonies and energetic instrumentals, Kendálin’s music draws on a variety of folk traditions, including Nordic and Celtic, to create its unique sound.
Kim Angelis & Josef 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Saturday, June 25 on the European Stage
Kim Angelis and Josef are a fabulous virtuoso violin and gypsy guitar duo. Josef's Hungarian background and Kim's English Romany heritage gives the music cross-cultural appeal, while their vibrant and free-spirited performance is sure to entertain and uplift. This internationally acclaimed composer and violin virtuoso is often described as “transforming herself from a soft-spoken, modest and spiritual person into a wild creature of the violin with flying skirts and hair, a few broken bowstrings and stomping heels”.
There's a cool Norwegian folk- rock duo called Fjord Motor Company. It's Norway via Salem, Oregon. Fjord Motor Company is a duo from Norway who play a variety of instruments while singing Scandinavian folk songs with a modern twist.

WSE has performed for Oregon Music Educators and All Northwest Music convention and festival, numerous performances in venues around town. They highlight music from Cuban composers, and include music and styles from South America. They blend the improvisation and complex harmonies of American jazz with the melodies and rhythms of the composers origins. Mark Powers, Salem’s drummer extraordinaire, has traveled to Cuba and Africa and brings his “world beats” to this performance. Return to top
